Learn to Play Hockey

4-14 Years Old

Mondays or Fridays

Learn the fundamental skating and hockey skills necessary for the game of Hockey. This program teaches the basics of how to skate and play the game and prepares kids to join House Hockey teams with the Maine Coast Storm.

$12/class (3-5 weeks per month)

MRC Developmental Teams

After Learn to Play Hockey, kids are ready to start taking their next steps in development with our 7U and 8U Hockey programs. Both programs practice together on-ice and both programs have a curriculum that develops skills both on and off the ice.

Program Goal

We follow the American Development Model (ADM) with station based practices that are designed for Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD). Our goal is for our kids to find joy in the game and set a great foundation for their future success on and off the ice.

Evaluation/Program Placement

A skills evaluation will take place on October 5th at 5:30pm before the start of the season and our coaches will work to determine kids that are a good fit for 8U or the 7U Mini-mites program. Some shifting of those teams may occur over the course of the season at the discretion of the directors and coaching staff. Both programs will occur on the same ice during the season.

Registration Deadline:

September 15th is the Registration Deadline.  Any registrations before this are eligible for a $50 discount. Use promo code: ‘EARLYBIRD’ before 9/15 at midnight to get this discount.

STORM Hockey

For kids ages 9-14 who advanced enough to play on teams, the Maine Coast Storm offers both in-house and travel hockey teams. The Storm's practice and home games are held right here at MRC, and they are a great next step for kids advancing in age and skill!

Storm teams are divided by age groups and skill levels. These skill levels include Tier III and IV Travel teams and Tier IV House teams. Tier IV House teams play all their games at MRC, while Tier III and IV Travel teams  play throughout Maine, with the potential to travel to tournaments outside the state. The regular season runs from early-October through mid-March.

Tier IV House Program

The Storm offers a Tier IV House program designed for 8-14 year olds who want to play the game at a reduced level of cost and time commitment with players of similar skills and abilities. The season consists of two skill practices per week with the 10U, 12U or 14U teams (depending on the age and skill of the skater) and a minimum of 10 games - all at MRC. Teams are comprised of both Travel and House players of mixed ages to ensure a positive and consistent experience for all players during games.  Players can  join the House program at any time during the season.

Tier III and IV Travel Program

The Storm also offers competitive Tier III and Tier IV Travel teams at the 1OU, 12U,  and 14U levels. The season consists of 2-3 practices per week and 24-26 regular season games (depending on the age group) played at a variety of rinks across the state. Players need to tryout in the spring for the upcoming season and are evaluated on their skating, puck  handling, shooting and body angling skills, as well as their hockey sense. Goalies are evaluated on skating, stance, angles, butterfly and mobility.

We refer to all our programs and teams as THE STORM.

High School Hockey

We are looking into starting a High School Developmental Training Program focused on allowing kids outside of the 5 Towns District an option to practice. Let us know if you're interested!

High School Hockey is currently being run by Camden Hills Regional High School and one of the most fun activities in our community is to come out and watch the games. We'll be posting the High School Hockey Schedule as soon as it's released in the fall. Stay tuned and come out and enjoy some fast paced hockey games this year.

Stick & Puck

Get on the ice and practice your shots, stick handling, or any other hockey skills. Stick & Puck is an open, non-structured time to be on the ice in your hockey gear.  This is not an organized program and is participant organized. We recommend that everyone tries to be mindful of the other ages and skills

A full set of hockey gear is required to be on the ice! All ages welcome!

$10 per session
